Honor, protection, and undeniable chemistry. Duty and Desire brings you heroes in uniform—bodyguards, soldiers, and law enforcers—who will do whatever it takes to protect the ones they love. Filled with action, danger, and steamy romance, these stories prove that sometimes the greatest battles are fought with the heart.

For our new collection releases, we thought we’d do a little something different with our author Q&A section and give you a glimpse into the writers personal trope faves! (And occasionally a peek at their writing spaces and pets!). We hope you enjoy!

Kristen Ashley (QUIET MAN):

What is your favorite thing about (the trope you’ve been included in)?

The innate protectiveness of the hero. I want to expand on that to make this answer more insightful and interesting, but it’s really that simple.

What trope have you not written yet but want to?

I love historicals. I’ve read hundreds of them, and I’ve always wanted to write a historical. I don’t know what holds me back, but this is a genre I’ve yearned to write from the very beginning! Maybe one day…

Kylie Scott (CLOSER):

What is your favorite thing about (the trope you’ve been included in)?

The idea of a stoic duty bound hero getting weak in the knees for his heroine is so much fun. Having a body guard lose his cool. Getting to watch his professional facade slip in the name of love is wonderful.

What trope have you not written yet but want to?

I’ve never tried brother’s best friend and I feel like it could be a nice angsty awkward situation to explore. Lots of we probably shouldn’t be doing this sort of vibes.

Rebecca Zanetti (VENGEANCE):

What is your favorite thing about (the trope you’ve been included in)?

There’s something utterly magnetic about the small-town man in uniform, especially when he’s got that perfect blend of humor, strength, and a protective instinct that runs deep. Picture him, grinning as he rescues a cat from a tree, knowing full well how ridiculous it looks, but still doing it without a second thought. That’s the kind of man who doesn’t just serve and protect his community—he’ll fiercely defend the woman he loves, no questions asked. There’s a possessiveness in him, a primal need to make sure no one threatens what’s his, and it comes out in the most unexpected, yet undeniably seductive ways. He’s the kind of man who makes you feel safe, cherished, and completely his, all while making you laugh with that cocky grin of his. Watching him juggle his protective nature, his quiet intensity, and that simmering possessiveness, all wrapped up in the humor and charm of small-town life, is what makes him impossible to resist.

What trope have you not written yet but want to? I’ve never written the fake romance trope and would like to explore the fun and humor in that situation someday.
