Provoke

(A Seaside Pictures Novella)

by Rachel Van Dyken

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken comes a new story in her Seaside Pictures series…

The music industry called me a savant at age sixteen when I uploaded my first video and gained instant fame. And then Drew Amherst of Adrenaline became my mentor, and my career took off.

Everything was great.

Until tragedy struck, and I wondered if I’d ever be able to perform again. I fought back, but all it took was a falling light to bring it all back to the fore. So, I walked away. Because I knew it wasn’t just stage fright. It was so much more.

The only problem?

Drew and the guys are counting on me. If I can’t combat the crippling anxiety threatening to kill me, I might lose more than I ever dreamed of.

Enter Piper Rayne, life coach, with her bullshit about empowerment, rainbows, and butterflies. She smiles all the damn time, and I’m ninety-nine percent sure there’s not a problem she can’t solve.

Until me.

She was given twenty-one days to fix me. To make me see what’s important. What’s real. The problem is, all I can see now is her. The sexy woman who pushes me. Provokes me.

Only time will tell if she’s able to do her job—and I can make her mine.

Oh, how I loved Piper and Braden! How did you choose them for this story?

I honestly started writing it and was like what’s something that’s current especially in our environment right now and I had just been watching a youtube video and was like well that’s perfect haha, add a life coach in there and you have the perfect modern mash up of a Rockstar who got famous from his social media influence (like a lot of stars have) and a girl who just wants to helps people reach their full potential!

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Braden being a red haired hero because it’s so cool and so rare! Can you tell us how you decided to give him that look?

Oh my word, I can’t get over this. So honest moment, my nephews all have red hair and it’s not only gorgeous but thick and I really wanted them to be represented like the heroes and rockstars they are, it’s so rare that we see a ginger as a hero and I’m so happy that 1001 Dark Nights already had the perfect model for me to use. We collaborated so well on this and it’s always such a pleasure to have a publisher that says, hey, what about….XYZ. I’m so proud to show them this cover I know they’ll all freak out!

Things are pretty wonky in the world right now. What are you doing to keep focused on your writing?

I’m writing a lot more, reading sci-fi romance because why not? Lol and we are spending a lot of time outside, as much time as possible in our front yard. I’ve officially turned into that person who puts a chair in the front yard, grabs a glass of wine, and waves as people walk by.

I love the Seaside Pictures crew. Are there any bands or songs you listen to that inspire them?

I actually do make playlists for each Seaside Pictures, this one had a lot of different songs on it but I always have to at least have a bit of Shawn Mendez since he was original inspiration from the earlier books.

What is one thing you have in your purse we would find that you think no one else carries around?

Oh gosh I can’t believe I’m even admitting this, in my last purse before I switched to a smaller one for traveling—I had bloody knuckles that a reader had sent me. I write mafia as well so I swear it’s not weird, but it’s also a legit weapon at night time, it at least makes me feel safer but also makes me grin.

Can you give us a hint as to what you’re working on now?

Right now I’m working on another secret project that’s part fantasy part time travel. I’m also working on more mafia books and have my next brand new stand alone series releasing on my birthday in May!
