Rescuing Macie

(A Delta Force Heroes Novella)

by Susan Stoker

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Susan Stoker comes a new story in her Delta Force Heroes series…

After years of estrangement, Mercedes Laughlin has finally reconciled with her older brother. It should be the happiest time of her life, getting to know Truck and his new wife…and it would be, if an ex wasn’t causing her trouble. Add in Truck’s boss, Colonel Colton Robinson, an amazingly distracting man whom she met under embarrassing circumstances, and Macie’s got a bit more on her plate than she can handle.

From the moment they met, Colt was fascinated by Macie, and helping her through an anxiety attack at her brother’s wedding didn’t diminish the appeal. He’d do his best to sweep her off her feet, if not for a little voice telling him to tread lightly—until a frantic phone call changes the plan. Macie’s being targeted, and Colt’s determined to keep her safe while he and her brother eliminate the threat.

Colt isn’t about to let his friend lose his sister again so soon…or miss his own chance at a happy ending with Macie before they’ve barely had a beginning.

An Exclusive Interview With Susan Stoker:

Oh how I loved Macie and Cole! How did you choose them for this novella?

I hadn’t planned on writing this story. But when I had to decide who to write this novella about I decided that Truck’s sister from my Delta Force Heroes series was perfect. I matched her with the Delta team’s commander, which is perfect because he will also be the commander of my upcoming new Delta Force Team Two series which starts in 2020!

If you could dream cast both of them for a movie, who would you choose?

This is an impossible question for me because I never write my stories with an actor/actress in mind. I see them in my own head as I write them. And I always tend to see actors and actresses as the roles they’ve played in the past. Suffice to say, however, Colt should be tall and handsome and Macie should be normal. Not overly beautiful, not super skinny. Just normal! lol

I admired Macie as she went through her struggles with anxiety and appreciated you giving your heroine a very real issue many suffer from. How did you decide to write that?

There are so many women who suffer from anxiety out there, that I thought it would be amazing if I could write a story where they could see themselves in the heroine. I reached out to my readers and asked if they’d be willing to share some of their own stories about their struggles with anxiety. I got SO many messages and emails. I did my best to do their stories justice with Macie. I wanted to make sure women everywhere understood that it’s possible to have anxiety and still have a happily ever after.

Is there a genre you’d like to give a try writing in in the future?

Honestly? I love writing what I write. I like the strong damsel in distress. I love writing about women who have been through hell, but are still able to live and love. And I love writing about men who would do anything for their woman. (That being said, I have dabbled with some shifter stories, but they’ll never see the light of day…they’re baaaaaad. Lol)

Can you give us a hint as to what you’re working on now?

I am currently finishing up my Mountain Mercenaries series and beginning to think about a new series about a group of men who are a little rougher around the edges than my previous Heroes. They definitely have some skeletons in their closet and they skirt on the edge of the law, but they’ll still move heaven and earth to keep their women safe and to protect them. Also in 2020 my new Delta Team Two series will start…with a Delta Force team that readers will see in Rescuing Macie.
