The Dandelion Diary

(A Maysen Jar Novella)

by Devney Perry

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Devney Perry comes a new story in her Maysen Jar series…

Dear Diary,

My dad needs a girlfriend, and I’ve already picked her out.

Miss Adler would be perfect for him, right? She’s super pretty. She has the best smile and she gives the best hugs. And she’s, like, the most amazing teacher in the world.

Dad is my hero, but I can tell he’s lonely. He tries to hide it from me, but sometimes at night, when he thinks I’m asleep, I’ll sneak downstairs and find him sitting on the couch, staring at nothing. He’s never had a girlfriend, not since the divorce. Mom messed him up. She’s good at that.

He’s smart and funny, but he doesn’t laugh enough. I’ve seen other moms at school check him out so I guess he’s handsome. (Eww.) And he makes up the best nicknames. He calls me Dandelion. I bet he’d give Miss Adler an awesome nickname too.

They’re perfect for each other. I just know it. Now I only have to show them I’m right.

Wish me luck.

Katy

An Exclusive Interview with Devney Perry

~with Jillian Stein, co-owner of 1,001 Dark Nights / The Blue Box Press

Can you tell us why or how you chose to write about this couple for your novella?

Jeff was a side character in Letters to Molly and, at the time I was writing that book, I hadn’t considered a story for him. But he was one of those characters that just stuck with me over the years and needed his own book.

Do you do anything to treat yourself when you finish writing a book?

I usually take a day to myself to do something fun like read or catch up on a Netflix show.

What one piece of advice would you give an aspiring writer?

Write! It’s so easy to get bogged down with the marketing and administrative tasks, but at the end of the day, the most important thing you can do for your career is to write consistently.

What mythical creature do you wish actually existed?

Dragons!

If you could watch one scene from this book be played out like a movie, which one would it be and why?

I would love to see the first chapter. The banter between Jeff and his daughter would be adorable. Plus I’d love to watch his first meeting with Della.
