Caress of Darkness
(A Dark Pleasures Novella)
by Julie Kenner
From the first moment I saw him, I knew that Rainer Engel was like no other man. Dangerously sexy and darkly mysterious, he both enticed me and terrified me.
I wanted to run–to fight against the heat that was building between us–but there was nowhere to go. I needed his help as much as I needed his touch. And so help me, I knew that I would do anything he asked in order to have both.
But even as our passion burned hot, the secrets in Raine’s past reached out to destroy us … and we would both have to make the greatest sacrifice to find a love that would last forever.

An Exclusive Interview With Julie Kenner:
What are your favorite romantic movies?
Oh! There are so many it’s hard to say! Do I really have to pick one? (I can’t pick one!). My favorite classic is Casablanca. (And it’s romantic, but not a romance). More modern, I’m a huge sucker for The Cutting Edge, and it might get first place, but I recently watched When Harry Met Sally and totally ugly-cried in a good way. So I think it’s going to get the top slot from me!
Where does your drive and passion for writing love stories come from?
Oh, I wish that I knew! I’ve always wanted to write, but every time I sat down to write (before I was officially trying to get published in romance) the story had to have some sort of romance in it, or else I was just “meh.” I think that may have to do with my mom, who is a huge fan of classic romantic comedies. It’s in my blood!
Name one guilty pleasure.
I frequently binge watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer or Alias. Like, a lot. Like, a lot … a lot. And vanilla ice cream slathered in chocolate sauce. But, hey, it’s guilt free. I’m doubling down on getting rid of “guilty pleasure.” If it’s a pleasure, own it 🙂
Aside from romance, what are things are you passionate about?
My family. My kids. The art of story in general. Learning. The ocean. Literacy. And, apparently, Buffy and Alias.
What scene from your novel are you most excited to see on-screen?
Oh, that is a HARD one! But I think it’s would be when Mal confronts Christina, the love of his life, who he has had to kill over and over and over again for centuries in order to basically save the world. But these are immortals, and so he keeps being tormented by this horrible duty. She never remember him, though. But this time, she says his name, and he can’t go through with it. I’m super excited to see the emotional bang of that moment on the screen. It’s just so very, very intense. (That, and some of the cool special effects like the fire swords and Phoenix effect!
