Begin Again

(A Stay Novella)

by Jennifer Probst

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Probst comes a new story in her Stay series.

Chloe Lake is finally living her dream. As the daughter of the Governor, she’s consistently in the spotlight, and after being dubbed the Most Eligible Bachelorette of NYC, both her career and personal life has exploded. Fortunately, her work as an advocate for animal welfare requires constant publicity and funding, so she embraces her role and plays for the camera—anything for the sake of her beloved rescues.

But when a big case is on the line, she’s faced with the one obstacle she never counted on: the boy who broke her heart is back, and in order to gain justice, they need to work together.

Chloe swears she can handle it until old feelings resurface, and she’s faced with a heartbreaking choice.

Will this time end differently—or are they destined to be only each other’s first love—instead of forever?

Owen Salt fell hard for Chloe when he was a screwed-up kid in college, and spent the next years changing himself into the man his grandfather believed he was capable of. But when his career led him across the country, he knew he needed to leave the woman he loved behind. He’s never forgotten her, but as the new darling of the press, now, she’s way out of his league. When work brings him back to fight for justice by her side, he swears he can handle it.

But he’s never really gotten over his first love—and he wants one more opportunity to prove he’s a man who’s worthy.

Can Owen convince the woman who holds his heart to take a second chance on forever—or is it too late for them both?

An Exclusive Interview With Jennifer Probst:

~ with Jillian Stein of Read Love Blog

Oh, how I loved Chloe and Owen! How did you choose them for this novella?

I’m so happy you loved them!

Chloe was introduced in the first book, The Start of Something Good, and she was a mixed up, hurting 19 year old girl who’d gotten herself into trouble and was assigned to community service at the Bishop’s horse rescue farm. She met Owen in the third book, All Roads Lead to You, and when I thought the series was done, they literally demanded their story be told. Oh, and the readers, of course! The series didn’t seem complete until I told their story, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to finally tell it!

I also love that because you’re a fellow animal lover, animal rescue and animal advocacy are a big part of the story. Can you tell us about the furbabies you currently have?

I have two rescue dogs right now – Willow and Scout. They were actually in a foster home together and truly loved one another. I adopted Willow first, and then Scout’s foster mom asked if I’d be willing to consider taking him because his owner couldn’t take care of him any longer and she wanted to make sure Scout had a good home. Immediately, I fell in love, and now I have them both and my family feels complete. Now if only I can convince my husband to adopt a third…

I‘m a sucker for a second chance romance. What are some of your favorite tropes to write and to read?

Oh, I love a second chance romance too! There’s something so real and true about a relationship not working out the first time due to circumstances and seeing how a couple can make it work again — like they were always meant to be together. I love friends to lover, enemies to lover, and marriages of convenience the most!

If you could give Chloe and Owen and theme song, what would it be?

At Last by Etta James. They danced to it when they first met, and there’s something so haunting and real about that song – it’s raw – and that’s what Chloe and Owen are all about.

Can you give a hint as to what you’re working on now?

Yes! I just finished up my last book in my Sunshine Sisters series, Forever in Cape May. I also am in final edits for my next nonfiction writing book, Write True. And I’m starting to write my next women’s fiction book, The Italian Getaway. Lots of wonderful things to be excited about. Thanks so much for taking the time to interview me, Jillian!
