Beautiful widow Sasha Porter has been hunted by his enemies. Desperate, she offers him anything to keep her young daughter safe, even agreeing to become his mistress. The last thing either of them want are emotional entanglements but as they entrap the ruthless politician who arranged Nick’s downfall and passion sizzles between them, danger closes in.

An Exclusive Interview With Shayla Black:

I loved Nick and Sasha so much! How did you choose them for this novella?

Nick is a sexy-as-hell guy who first appeared in OURS TO LOVE. I adored his big heart, his funny T-shirts, and the take-charge way he got things done. But fast-forwarding him a couple of years—and some terrible life experiences—later, I knew I’d encounter a deeper, darker man. This Nick is eager for revenge and ready to claim the woman he’s long wanted. I’ve known for years that he belonged with Sasha, who (in her words) would have been a suburban soccer mom, if not for tragedy. I’ve just been waiting for the opportunity to tell their story. I’m so excited to share this sensual, gritty tale with y’all. The New Orleans setting and update on the Santiago family (now that baby has arrived) made it even more fun.

There was a really great element of suspense in this story. Is it ever difficult to plot out that layer in a book?

It’s always a fun challenge putting together the pieces of the suspense puzzle, and this story held juicy elements of revenge, years-long yearning, devotion, guilt, and sacrifice. It was a pleasure to untangle all the threads of this tale!

I always admire how well you keep a cohesive look to your brand. Can you tell new authors one tip on how to brand yourself well?

Remember when your parents asked you what you wanted to be when you grow up? Think similarly with branding. What do you want readers to know/think about your and your books? What will always be true about your writing, regardless of the title and genre you’re writing? Those are the elements you must convey in everything you circulate that includes your name.

Quick! What would we find on your desk right this minute?

My ear buds, my phone, and a hot mug of jasmine passion fruit tea.

Can you give us a hint as to what you’re working on next?

Not specifically yet…but I have several announcements to make VERY soon, including some surprises I hope will excite fans. The folks who receive my newsletter will hear the news first, so if you want the first scoop—and some other goodies, like the FREE prequel to the Doms of Her Life: Raine Falling books—subscribe! Ok, so for 2016 I am going to be playing Mad Libs with the 1,001 Dark Nights authors for a bit of fun! Here is Shayla’s Mad Libs titled “Future Professions”:

We have all taken an aptitude test and put the results in a swanky computer. It predicts that Mallory has a lot of talent for shopping. She will probably become a famous Professional Snuggler like Kim Kardashian. William will become a second Justin Bieber. On the other hand, Meow Black should take up snogging and get a job handling sheep. When I grow up, I want to be either a fireman, a doctor, or a penis. In the meantime, I am modeling myself after my hero, my mom.
