Envy

(An Eagle Elite Novella)

by Rachel Van Dyken

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken comes a new story in her Eagle Elite series…

Every family has rules, the mafia just has more….
Do not speak to the bosses unless spoken to.
Do not make eye contact unless you want to die.
And above all else, do not fall in love.
Renee Cassani’s future is set.
Her betrothal is set.
Her life, after nannying for the five families for the summer, is set.
Somebody should have told Vic Colezan that.
He’s a man who doesn’t take no for an answer.
And he only wants one thing.
Her.
Somebody should have told Renee that her bodyguard needed as much discipline as the kids she was nannying.
Good thing Vic has a firm hand.

OMG I loved Renee and Vic so much!  How did you choose them for this novella?

Honestly I had Vic as a very minor character in my last Eagle Elite book and I KNEW I wanted to write something about him. He was always so mysterious, never smiled, and just intrigued me so much! He was even more intense once I got into his head. It’s been a fantastic journey! I had no idea how sexy and dominate he was!

Who would you dream cast for both of them?

Oh man that’s such a hard question! He’s big and bulky so I can see Tom Hardy being cast and maybe Olivia Munn!

I’m sure you’ve been asked this in the past but what made you decide to write about the Mafia?

So my husband is always very encouraging, and there was a news story (local) about this mob guy that was hiding out and pretending to be a farmer for 20 years about 30 miles from our house, Nate came up to me and was like this, you need to write about this, I would read this. At the time I didn’t think I could write suspense, five years later I have to keep myself from not just killing everyone haha, whoops?

You also write historical romance among other genres. Is it ever difficult to switch gears from one to another?

Honestly I think that’s what keeps my writing fresh. When you switch genres you have to follow those rules, meaning I can’t just do what’s easy for me. It constantly challenges me which his always exciting.

Do you have any rituals you do while writing?  Like a certain snack you have to have or music you listen to?

I have to have music! That’s a must. I love snacking on pirate booty while I write, and I have to have my playlist HALF done before I can even comprehend doing any writing in that book.

Can you give us a hint as to what you’re working on now?

HAH, actually no. Just kidding. I’m working on an iBooks exclusive called Cruel Summer (the series) the first book drops next week and I just finishing the last in the series. I’m also working on a super secret project that has me giddy for fans. It wont be releasing for another 18 months or so but it’s going to be epic and the journey so far personally for me has been life changing.
